Nuit Blanche, Paris, 2015

Spectrum was commissioned by the City of Paris for La Nuit Blanche, the annual night-time arts festival. Developed in collaboration between SINATO and ARCHIEE, the project responded to the theme of Climate in the context of COP21. Climate is not an object but a phenomenon. Though it has no fixed form, we sense its presence. With Spectrum, we sought to materialize that elusive condition and create something between architecture, art, installation, and performance. The site was a pedestrian tunnel still under construction. Within this raw infrastructural space, we introduced a shifting volume made from twisted translucent organza. Filled with haze, it appeared tangible while constantly changing shape with the movement of air. Programmed light was projected onto this cloud-like form, creating an ambiguous presence between atmosphere and architecture. Sound followed the same approach. Frequencies around the standard 440 Hz tuning were intentionally shifted and layered to produce subtle fluctuations. Together, haze, light, and sound formed an environment in constant transformation. The fragile beauty of things that drift, change, and never fully settle has always fascinated us. Although the installation appeared almost alive, it remained an artificial construct—ultimately reminding us of the incomparable beauty of the living atmosphere itself.
